Design Exercise: Short-Form Case Study

  • The design prompt (maybe even the screenshot of it!) and why you found it interesting
    • Using Sharpen.design, I came across a design prompt that caught my eye. It is as follows:
      • Design 4 logo variants for 1970s NASA.
  • What tools you used to complete the work. Why did you choose them?
    • For this design exploration I used mind-mapping, sketching, and Adobe Illustrator.
  • A written description of the work you completed. Explain your approach.
    • I began a design exploration by mind-mapping word associations and things I think of when considering NASA, space, and the 1970s. I then evolved the ideas that I generated into quick thumbnail sketches. I took what seemed to be the strongest ideas from these sketches and advanced them into digital creations by forming initial drafts of 2D drawings in Adobe Illustrator. Although I would have advanced these ideas further, I feel like I got great start in spending just two hours on the challenge.
  • Your visual deliverables (screenshots, animations, prototypes, hand-drawn sketches…anything and everything you created for this exercise)
    • My initial deliverables based on my exploration:
